Outreach Services
Carthage Public Library District
Federal Talking Book Program
Our Outreach Librarian will assist patrons in applying for the
Federal Talking Book Program, designed for persons with limited vision
or other disabilities which make reading difficult. If the patron
qualifies for this free program, they will receive a machine to play
audio cassettes. There are a large number of books on cassette to
choose from, plus Old Time Radio programs on cassette, and descriptive
videos.
The librarian is also available to show the patron how to opereate
the talking book machine, and assist with any operating problems and
with ordering cassettes.
For more information about this Federal program and the types of materials available, check out the Mid-Illinois Talking Book Center's webpage. The MITBC has offices in Quincy and Pekin and is part of our Alliance Library System.
Homebound Program
Patrons who are physically unable to come to the library, even if only
temporarily, may sign up for our homebound program. The Outreach
Librarian will deliver books and other library materials to the patron's
home. There is no charge for this service, but the person must be a
registered library patron (must have a library card).
Large Print Book Stations
Book stations are maintained at the Hancock County Nursing Home on
South Adams Street, and the Carthage Senior Center, 301 E. Main Street.
15-20 books are usually kept at each station. A different selection
of books is available each month.
To contact the Outreach Librarian for more information, assistance,
or to register for one of our programs, call the library at 217-357-3232.
