Unsound Material Presented by Glenn Blanchard at the Eureka Preacher's School - 1999

At the Preacher's School held at Eureka Church, in Georgia, in 1999, Glenn Blanchard (see other pages on this website for information about him) was one of the instructors. His presentation was entitled "Taking the Great Commission Seriously." He begins by ridiculing the church where he first joined, in 1982 (the church which excluded him for leaving without a letter of dismission). His criticisms are not that they did not teach the truth, but that they had an old building, no air conditioning, no sign, and used the Lloyd's Hymnal. He presents an outline for evangelism and church growth. He then presents a supplement of extracts written by members of his home church which praise him and the church where he is pastor for the great things they are doing.

Among their testimonies are the following from Sister Becky Roberts:

"May I just share a few longwinded thoughts as to why our church is experiencing growth? First and foremost - God's blessings (of course):

A. In providing a pastor with preaching ability, leadership skills, ability to relate to people of so many age groups.

B. To have been ridden of most of our OLD RUT BAPTISTS that keep a church stagnant. Change is good for people!

And, the following from Sister Jackie Watkins:

"Because our pastor is a friendly, knowledgeable, innovative and prayerful man of God, I think the New Hope Church has grown both spiritually and numerically at a phenomenal rate. His spirit of cheerfulness, friendliness and caring has rubbed off on the members so taht they are eager to bring friends and family to worship. Elder Blanchard's penchant for humor, fearlessness in trying new (Biblical) ideas has kept members and visitors returning to New Hope for guidance, in spiration, and instruction on God's word."

A ten year old child writes:

"1. Elder Blanchard acts out and explains things he does not just read the Bible.

2. Our church solving problems as a group, and not just one person making decisions.

3. We are blessed to ahve a good preacher that on Wednesday he calls the young people up to the front bench and explains things to us.

4. Our church donates to the poor.

Eleven and twelve year old girls write:

A good pastor is a man who is willing to change and go forward; reaches and preaches to all ages; reaches out to sister churches and the community; evangelizes.
