List of Surnames in the All-Year Obituary Indexes
for Various Primitive Baptist Church Periodicals
Due to limited volunteer time available, we can only do lookups for obituaries as our schedule permits. There is no charge but voluntary contributions are accepted to assist with maintaining our collection, copying, mailing, etc.
A total of 35,769 obituary entries have been made to our database, so far, from the papers shown below.

2,149 names have now been entered for the following years: 1854, 1856, 1857, 1858, 1859, 1880-1881, 1898-1900, 1903-1917, 1919-1942, and parts of a few other years. More still to come, for years up to and including 2009. Annual indexes were not made after 1928, which will make the work more difficult. The list below will be removed, and the whole list of surnames will be entered in its place, when we have completed entering the names from our holdings of this paper.
Messenger of Peace, Macon & St. Joseph, Missouri, and Springfield, Illinois, for the years 1874/1875 through 1959 (missing volumes and related indexes for 1876, 1879-1882, part of 1885, 1888, and part of 1903).
6,067 names have now been entered into an all-year index from all the annual indexes of this paper which we have access to (we lack a few years, as shown above).
Primitive Baptist, Martin, Tennessee & Thornton, Arkansas, for 1886-1906 and 1930-1984 (incomplete).
We have now entered 6,026 names, for the years 1886-1906, 1930, 1931, 1934-1936, 1939, 1940, 1943-1947, and 1950-1984 (indexes were not made in 1907 and 1908, nor years after 1984). We are presently attempting to obtain indexes for the other years which are not listed above. Surnames are as follows:
Zion's Landmarks, published in Wilson, North Carolina, and vicinity, from 1867 to the present.
We have now entered 1,250 names for obituaries in our index for this paper. The surnames for these, shown below, come from Volumes 25 through 36. The remainder have not yet been indexed.
Gospel Messenger, published at Butler, Georgia, by Elders J. R. Respess, William M. Mitchell, and J. E. W. Henderson, from about 1878 until 1896, when it was purchased by Elder Sylvester Hassell. Elder Hassell sold the paper to Elder Z. C. Hull, of Atlanta, Ga., in 1920, who in turn sold it to Elder R. H. Pittman, in 1923. Elder Pittman merged it with the Advocate & Messenger. Our incomplete holdings begin in December 1880, and continue through 1923.
